THE DELAYED EXPRESS
He swore he caught the nine o'clock and was gone. That train ran two hours late.
INCIDENT REPORT. Walter Reed was found before dawn in the booking hall, struck down with the heavy signal lamp. The night express had run two hours late; the nine o'clock train did not pull out until eleven. Five of the railway people were awake at the halt that night. Each gave an account of the dark hours. One of them anchors an alibi to a train that had not yet left the platform.
Decode each statement, then name the one liar. The cipher is the same for all five.
