He said he unwrapped the gift the dead man sent. The parcel sat at the station all night.
INCIDENT REPORT. Frank Mercer was found at dawn in his study, struck down with a heavy brass inkwell. A parcel addressed to the house had not been delivered; it sat at the station office all night, the carrier having failed to come. Five of the household were awake. Each gave an account. One of them speaks of unwrapping a gift that never reached the door.
