THE SILENT GUN

Decode each statement, then name the one liar. The cipher is the same for all five.

INCIDENT REPORT. Edmund Blunt, auctioneer of the county rooms, was found dead in the toll-house parlour in the grey of morning, the keeper's strongbox open and the week's takings gone. One fact stands settled: the coroner found no gunshot wound — the blow was struck with a brass window-weight found by the hearth, and the surgeon's note is plain that no shot was ever fired in that house. Five were on the toll road that night. One account will not hold.
