CASE FILE No.957 STATUS: OPEN EYES ONLY
COLD CASE · PRACTICE
THE KEY ON THE CHAIN
A railway halt and signal box, interwar, a moonless dark, the levers and the signalman's lamp.
Decode each statement, then name the one liar. The cipher is the same for all five.
INCIDENT REPORT. Giles Sefton, keeper of the Wrack Point light and steward to the halt's small estate, was found dead at the foot of the signal box steps before dawn, his keeper's chain still about his neck. One fact stands settled: the cellar beneath the halt house was locked all night and the only key lay on the dead man's chain; no one else could go down. Five were about the halt. One account will not hold.
Small numbers count each symbol's appearances.
