THE OPEN ROAD
A gentlemen's club, interwar, the hush after the last train, the card room and the mews behind.
Decode each statement, then name the one liar. The cipher is the same for all five.
INCIDENT REPORT. Edwin Foss, gamekeeper to the Fenwick estate, was found dead in the mews behind the Albany Club, summoned to town by a letter nobody owns. One fact stands settled: the road along the whole of Albany Row was opened to the drains that week, the surveyor's boards standing across both ends and the trench still open in the morning. No wheel passed that street all night. Five were in the club. One account will not hold.
